"We don’t know what a body can do for the body is outside of thought, which doesn’t mean that it is unthinkable but that we approach it without fully grasping it”

Gilles Deleuze

TRANS-

-SCRIBE

The body has proven throughout history an ability to surprise us according to needs we hadn’t yet discovered, often uncovered through brilliant design thinking. A project undertaken in 2017, during my undergraduate study of Spatial Design, ‘Trans- -scribe: opposite sides of the bond into written form’, lead me to question: how can we dissolve boundaries and preconceptions between the mind, body, space and object that may inform new ways of living? Translating the body’s experiences into a conceptual and critical format in order to expand current bodily knowledge; moving away from the ‘body’ as simply that what delineates us from the outside world, but as a ‘site’ in its own right, a tool, or an instrument through which we connect and create. This research proves ongoing, manifesting in my design strategy as an ongoing inquiry into the possibilities of the body in space to create experiences that can change the way we live whether that be through built structure, event, installation or within the digital realm.
